This volume is committed to the American people, in the firm assurance that the invaluable facts which it records will be grateful to every patriotic and pious heart. In it, as from the richest mines, has been brought out of the pure gold of our history. Its treasures have been gathered and placed in this casket for the instruction and benefit of the present and future. We have a noble historic life; for our ancestors were the worthies of the world. We have a noble nation, full of the evidences of the moulding presence of Christian truth, and of the power and goodness of Divine wisdom in rearing up a Christian republic for all time. That this was the spirit and aim of the early founders of our institutions, the facts in this volume fully testify.

Thanks are due to Google for making possible online access to classic works like this one. There is a wealth of information available here documenting the Judeo-Christian heritage underlying our national foundations.
The "clifflyon" review below is misleading, uninformed, and quite obviously politically motivated; I doubt the author read beyond the first few pages of this unique book. For example, the word "genius" is used only twice in the introductory page, not three times as claimed, and it is applied first to the civil institutions of the U.S., not Christianity. The rest of the review is equally erroneous. Anyone who reads more than a paragraph or two of this elegantly-written 19th-century treatise will know immediately that the disparaging comments regarding style and grammar reveal more about the reviewer than the book.
The 2007 hardcover edition of this volume has just been reprinted for the ninth time and can be found online from a number of sources. The facts it contains are almost entirely unavailable in public schools and college campuses, yet they should be required reading for all Americans regardless of religious persuasion or lack thereof. This is a great companion volume to Dinesh D'Sousa's "What's So Great About Christianity."

Subject: A Useful Artifact of The Study of Evangelical Influences of The Republican Party
Subject: A Useful Artifact of The Study of Evangelical Influences of The Republican Party
This book is an invaluable specimen in the study of the revivalist hysteria surrounding politics in post Civil War America.
The poor writing does not merit the effort or cost of typesetting. Considered in the context of the period, the evangelical advocacy of the title and thesis, and the sponsership by Radical Republican Charles Sumner, I would characterize this book as common, long-form political propaganda.
It is clearly influenced by the pseudo-revivalist lobby group.
The unpracticed, apparently unedited, pedestrian and frankly horrific writing is full of grammatical errors.
From the first page, the book is a series of redundant, declarations of unsupported premises.
i.e. Christianity is characterized as 'genius' three times is the first 2 pages.
The absurdity of the thesis and arguments put forth in this book resemble those of Republican Party in the Bush/Cheney/Rove years.
This book should be categorized under Religious Anthropology, American Revivalism, Republican Politics, and Political Propaganda.

Subject: Beware author!
An endorsement can do nothing but hurt your book in the eyes of those that know him. No one knows less about the Christian Life and Character than nevhusker. He is a pariah among the Northern Nevada Christian Community and devoutly to be avoided.

Then why did your username look so much like his? You really want to smear yourself?

The purpose of the author was to produce the historical documentation still available in his day, so as to present America's rich Christian heritage. He accomplished all of his detailed research within just decades of the era of our Founding Fathers. No other work compares to it. Almost any topic related to the culture and government of the U.S. is presented in this volume. Excellent Home School Material. Find it at http://www.visionviewpoint.com in CD format or hardcover.

"Be afraid ACLU. Be very afraid. Morris packs The Christian Life and Character with page after page of original source material making the case that America was founded as a Christian nation. The evidence is unanswerable and irrefutable. This 1000-page book will astound you and send enemies of Christianity into shock.
